Hygot is a fork of [[https://github.com/SpigotMC/Spigot-Server|Spigot]] ((On 4 September 2014, Spigot was taken down [[https://www.spigotmc.org/wiki/unofficial-explanation-about-the-dmca/|due to the DMCA of CraftBukkit]])), which was itself a fork of CraftBukkit((On 4 September 2014, CraftBukkit was taken down due to a [[https://web.archive.org/web/20141209044021/https://dl.bukkit.org/dmca/notification.txt|DMCA filed on 3 September 2014]] by former CraftBukkit contributor Wesley Wolfe)).
Hypixel maintains architecture for modern Minecraft, though this appears to be used exclusively for [[https://hypixelskyblock.minecraft.wiki/|Skyblock]].
Most other games appear to run on their older 1.7.10 spigot-like backend, modified by a large number of custom and [[https://papermc.io/|Paper]] patches.
